Welcome! I'm glad you"re here.

Art is a wonderful way to let your child have fun while developing skills that will enhance their overall learning. As students move through various art lessons they will be developing a love of art that enhances fine motor, problem solving, and communication skills. Their imaginations and creativity will begin to blossom and before you know it you'll have a little Picasso of your own!

Learning about Vincent van Gogh

We have been learning about Vincent van Gogh. Vincent was a famous Dutch post-impressionist painter. He began drawing as a child, but did not start painting until his late 20's. He created around 800-900 paintings! Overall he created around 2000 works of art.

Sunflowers are among his most famous paintings.

Here are our versions of Sunflowers.
If you don't see your picture here its because I haven't got one yet.

Pencil drawing

Today we did a study on the components of the eye.
This was done in preparation for doing a portrait.

Sydney used a "B" drawing pencil and blending stick.

Great work Sydney!
(9 yrs old, 4th grade)
Today's lesson also included an abstract
warm up, but I forgot to take a picture of it.
I'll include it in the next post!

Still Life Drawing

Miss Anna did a still life drawing today!
This was her first attempt at working on shading...I think she did a fantastic job!
Anna is 13 years old and going into the 8th grade!

Anna this is beautiful!

Happy Drawing!

Still Life Drawing

Today I gave a private art lesson to Sydney. We focused on drawing techniques and shading.
It is always important to see what you're drawing. Don't just try to draw from memory because you'll end up with something that is not very accurate. It will look more like a "symbol" rather than being realistic. So... I chose to have her do a still life pencil drawing of an apple.
To do the still life I took her step by step through the drawing process. We looked at the contour, the shapes made from shadows and highlights, texture, etc. She used a #2B drawing pencil, blending stick, and kneaded eraser.

Keep in mind that Sydney is only 9 years old! I am so proud of her! This is awesomeness!!

Sydney working on her parrot...this is a drawing that
I'm doing step by step with her. When it is finished I'll post it.

So focused!

Happy Drawing!
